Tiny Bow Project

Behind Tiny Bow Project

Pairing a gymnastics competition hairstyle with a season-long effort to spotlight causes that matter.

The Idea

Two Braids, Two Bows

Double braids finished with two tiny bows became Megan Skaggs' go-to competition hairstyle. During her fifth and final NCAA gymnastics season, that simple style turned into something more: a way to pair performance with purpose.

A small detail in the hair, a bigger conversation at the meet.

The Tiny Bow Project began as a personal detail. After finishing each routine with two braids and two small bows, the hairstyle became a quiet signature, a way to carry something familiar into an arena that can feel enormous. What started as a style choice turned into a conversation starter, and the conversation grew to include causes worth caring about beyond gymnastics itself. The project pairs a competition look with intention, letting a tiny accessory open space for a much bigger idea.

Throughout a season of meets, each competition was paired with a different cause. The same two bows showed up again and again, but the meaning behind them shifted, giving every routine a distinct emphasis. The approach was simple and repeatable: a small, visible detail paired with a specific idea, shared with the crowd, with teammates, and with anyone paying attention from the stands. Consistency in the hairstyle made room for variety in the message, and the message stayed the point.

For an athlete who graduated from the University of Florida, this project sits naturally alongside a broader effort to connect, learn, and build something lasting. A student-athlete's season is finite, but the habits it forms are not. Using a personal style as a platform for awareness reflects the same values the site describes: passion and purpose, hard work, and a genuine wish to connect with people. What began as a small detail in the hair became a season-long platform for spotlighting causes that matter.

The 2022 Season

A Cause for Every Meet

Throughout the 2022 NCAA Gymnastics Season, Megan competed with a unique cause in mind at each meet, using the moment on the floor to bring awareness beyond the score. Ten causes close to her heart were selected for the project across the season.
