Tiny Bow Project

Charity Beneficiaries

Ten causes close to Megan’s heart, each represented by a tiny bow during the 2022 NCAA Gymnastics Season.

Ten causes selected for the 2022 season — the fifth and final season Megan competed as a Gator.

During the 2022 season, Megan wore a unique tiny bow at each meet to represent a cause that mattered to her. These are the organizations and movements the project stood behind.

20% of the sale of the Tiny Bow Pack was donated to the charities represented in the Tiny Bow Project.

The Ten Causes

  • A21

An organization focused on raising awareness and support for the A21 campaign.

  • The Trevor Project

Crisis intervention and suicide prevention support for LGBTQ young people.

  • Charity: Water

Bringing clean, safe water to people in developing countries.

  • The Hidden Opponent

Raising awareness of mental health and eating disorders in student-athletes.

  • Classy

Connecting donors with causes through its fundraising platform.

  • Causes 6–10

The remaining five causes selected for the 2022 season, worn as a ribbon at each meet.

Ten causes were selected for the 2022 season — each one close to Megan’s heart. The full meet-by-meet pairing of bow to cause is listed on the Schedule page.

The Tiny Bow Project grew out of a simple idea: that a small accessory worn at a gymnastics meet could carry a much larger message. During her final collegiate season, Megan wore a different tiny bow at each competition, and each one was tied to a cause she cared about deeply. The project turned a familiar piece of athletic gear into a quiet, visible statement, letting the audience learn something about a mission every time they watched her compete.

Ten causes were selected across the season, spanning awareness campaigns, crisis support, and community movements. Some focused on mental health and crisis intervention, others on identity and belonging, and others on groups and causes that rarely receive attention. The approach was deliberately broad rather than narrow, allowing the project to connect with people through a variety of missions while keeping the consistent thread of showing up, publicly, for something beyond the sport itself.

A portion of the sale of the Tiny Bow Pack was donated to the charities represented throughout the project, so that wearing a bow could also mean contributing to the work each organization does. That connection between participation and giving is what gave the project its meaning: the bows were not simply decorative, but a small reminder that a student athlete can be an advocate, a passer-along of awareness, and a bridge between a university community and causes that matter.

Beyond the season itself, the project reflects a broader theme running through Megan's story — passion and purpose built over time, curiosity about people and problems, and a willingness to keep learning. The Tiny Bow Project was one of the first pieces of the portfolio: a personal interest translated into something shareable, something that could be documented, explained, and passed along to others. It remains a good example of how a small, focused idea can become a platform for connecting people with meaningful work.

How Proceeds Reach These Organizations

The Tiny Bow Ribbon Pack was priced at $35.00 and included ribbon for one person to wear all ten cause ribbons alongside Megan. Twenty percent of each sale was donated to the charities represented in the Tiny Bow Project, and purchasers received membership to the “Skaggs Squad” with access to exclusive meet-and-greets throughout the 2022 NCAA Gymnastics Season.
